What to do in Karpacz when it rains? 5 indoor attractions for the whole family (2026)

Exhibit at the Brick Museum Karpacz — the perfect attraction for a rainy day

Does rain in Karpacz wreck your holiday plan?

No — provided you have a Plan B. The weather in the Karkonosze (Giant Mountains) changes fast: sun in the morning, a thunderstorm at midday, clear sky again in the evening. Since 2015, running the Brick Museum here with Magda, we've seen thousands of families whose mountain plans were cancelled by rain. Every one of them found a way in Karpacz to spend the day brilliantly.

This guide is a list of 5 indoor attractions in Karpacz and the area that work regardless of the weather. No fluff, no "every hotel has a SPA" — only real places that actually open at 10:00, make sense for a family and are current for 2026.

5 indoor attractions in Karpacz — what to do when it rains?

1. Brick Museum + Video Game Museum — two attractions under one roof

Address: ul. Mickiewicza 11, 58-540 Karpacz (entrance from ul. Konstytucji 3 Maja). Open daily 10:00–18:00, all year round — with one exception, 1 November. The safest plan for a rainy day in Karpacz.

This is our place, so take us with a grain of salt — but also without sugar-coating: when it rains in Karpacz, that's exactly when the most visitors land at our door. And it makes sense. Under one roof we have two museums that together easily give 2–3 hours of fun, and for many families fill even half a day.

Honest take on rain in Karpacz: on a rainy day every tourist hides under cover — restaurants, attractions, cafés all packed. Our place gets crowded and tight too, that's the truth. Anyone choosing an attraction for a rainy afternoon should expect company. Not just at our place — everywhere.

The Brick Museum is three floors of interactive models built from bricks. Trains, discos, dancing figures — you set everything in motion with buttons and joysticks. Our flagship SpaceX rocket really launches and flies into space. Among the models you'll find a brick railway station, the world of Harry Potter, Frozen, vintage brick races, a zone of the 80s and 90s, and Mars with a rover suspended from the ceiling.

The Video Game Museum is over 50 years of hardware history and 30 stations with retro games — Tetris, Super Mario, Tekken and dozens of classics. Among the exhibits: the first Magnavox Odyssey brought from the USA (the oldest home console in history) and UNITRA GTV — the first Polish Pong-style console. Plus Atari, Pegasus, Game Boy.

Pricing 2026 — the family ticket gets cheaper the more of you there are:

  • Brick Museum: 35 PLN / 1 person — 145 PLN / 5 people
  • Video Game Museum: 29 PLN / 1 person — 120 PLN / 5 people
  • Combined "Two Museums" ticket: 52 PLN / 1 person — 200 PLN for 5 people, only 40 PLN per person
  • Children under 90 cm tall — free admission.

Average visit time at the Brick Museum: 40–60 minutes. Both together (Brick Museum + Video Game Museum): about 1 hour 30 minutes. Card and cash payment. VAT invoice on request before purchasing the ticket.

Important for parents: strollers, unfortunately, can't enter — the layout of the space doesn't allow it. You can leave them at the shop counter.

2. Toy Museum in Szklarska Poręba — 30 minutes by car from Karpacz

Address: ul. Jedności Narodowej 16, 58-580 Szklarska Poręba. Open daily 10:00–18:00. Reduced ticket 25 PLN, adult 30 PLN (current promotion: reduced 25 PLN also for adults — check before your visit).

If you want to add variety to a rainy day, Szklarska Poręba lies ~30 minutes by car from Karpacz, and the local Toy Museum is our second venue — Magda and I run it with the same team as the Brick Museum.

What will you find inside? Loads of Hot Wheels cars, bricks, Barbie dolls, Monster High, Sylvanian Families, retro games, a giant collection of plush toys and what's currently exciting kids: Pop Mart, Labubu, Pokémon. We're also developing a manga character zone.

3. Recreational pools in Karpacz and the area — swimming when it pours

There's no large classic water park in Karpacz itself. Of the three options in the area we strongly recommend Hotel Gołębiewski Karpacz — the pool zone is very large, so even at peak crowds you can use it comfortably. It's our number one when guests ask about swimming with a child in rain.

Backup options — call before arrival, availability for non-hotel guests varies by season:

  • Hotel Gołębiewski Karpacz — a large water-park-style pool zone, several slides, comfortable even at high occupancy.
  • Hotel Sandra Spa Karpacz — a smaller recreational pool.
  • Cieplice Thermal Baths in Jelenia Góra — thermal pools, about 25 minutes by car. Practical note: the venue is relatively small for the number of tourists visiting the region, so it can get heavily crowded — especially on weekends and at peak season.

4. Karkonosze cuisine — a long lunch as your programme

A rainy day is a good excuse to slow down. In Karpacz there are several regional restaurants with Lower Silesian and Karkonosze cuisine — goulash soups, dumplings, game dishes, the famous Silesian noodles.

Important seasonal note (2026): the promenade in central Karpacz is completely dug up. Shops and restaurants on the promenade are running normally, you can pass through — but the sight of construction work spoils the charm. If you care about an atmospheric lunch, in 2026 we recommend restaurants away from the promenade: in Karpacz Górny (around Wang Temple) or along the main streets on the outskirts of town.

5. SPA and wellness at hotels — recovery for adults

Many hotels in Karpacz and the area offer SPA zones, saunas and pools that you can use without staying overnight — a few-hour entry ticket is enough. It's a good solution for an afternoon after the museums. Worth booking ahead, especially on weekends and long weekends.

How to plan a rainy day in Karpacz step by step?

The simplest plan for a whole day without going out in the rain:

  • 10:00–13:00: Brick Museum + Video Game Museum (~3 hours under one roof; entrance from ul. Konstytucji 3 Maja in Karpacz).
  • 13:00–14:30: lunch at a regional restaurant in Karpacz Górny or on the outskirts of town.
  • 14:30–17:00: optional drive to Szklarska Poręba for the Toy Museum (30 min drive).
  • 17:00 onward: SPA at the hotel, pool or a quiet evening with board games in the room.

If the rain lasts several days — on day two it's worth moving the Toy Museum to first position and spending the afternoon at the pools of Hotel Gołębiewski or Sandra Spa.

When the weather clears up — what to do after the rain?

After rain, the Karkonosze look exceptional — fresh air, drops on leaves, mist coming off the ridges. The best plans for a clearing sky:

  • Łomnica Waterfall in Karpacz Górny — a short walk, water after rain is spectacular.
  • Chairlift to Kopa (1377 m) — after a thunderstorm passes the views are usually exceptionally clear over the entire Karkonosze and far into the Czech Republic.
  • "Kolorowa" Summer Toboggan Run — alpine sledges, a good option for the afternoon.
