Karpacz for a weekend — a 2-day plan for a family with kids (2026)

A weekend in Karpacz — Brick Museum as a must-see point

Karpacz for a weekend — does it make sense?

Short answer: definitely yes. Karpacz is one of those places you can see in a weekend and leave feeling you spent your time well. The town is compact, the attractions are close to each other, and getting there from most major Polish cities takes from 1 h 45 min to about 5 hours.

As the owners of the Brick Museum in Karpacz, running it here together with Magda since 6 January 2015, every day we meet weekend families — and we know exactly which plans work and which fall apart. Below you'll find a concrete 2-day plan — tested, real, with time for food and rest.

Day 1 — town, models and an evening of relaxation

Morning: arrival and check-in (10:00)

If you can, leave on Friday evening or very early on Saturday morning — to avoid traffic and have a full day for sightseeing. In season and on long weekends, traffic on the DK3 through Jelenia Góra can be heavy. Check in at your hotel or apartment, drop your luggage, head out.

Late morning: Brick Museum + Video Game Museum (10:30–13:00)

Start with us — the Brick Museum. The administrative address of the building is ul. Mickiewicza 11, but the museum entrance is from ul. Konstytucji 3 Maja — best to enter that name in your sat-nav. We open at 10:00, in the morning hours it's less crowded, and kids start the day in great spirits.

Three floors of interactive brick models. Most have buttons and joysticks underneath — your child (and you) can set in motion trains, discos, dancing figures, and our flagship SpaceX rocket launches and flies into space. Among the flagship models: a brick railway station, the world of Harry Potter + a large Hogwarts Express, Star Wars, the pirate ship in a new version, an amusement park, a chairlift with a mountain village, Technic construction machines, Frozen, the 80s and 90s zone, Mars with a rover suspended from the ceiling.

Plan at least 1 hour 30 minutes for both museums. The combined "Two Museums" ticket is the best price option: for 5 people it's 200 PLN = 40 PLN per person. Children under 90 cm tall enter free.

Lunch (13:00–14:00)

Seasonal note 2026: the promenade in central Karpacz is completely dug up. This year we recommend restaurants outside the promenade — in Karpacz Górny (around Wang Temple) or along the main streets on the outskirts.

Afternoon: Wang Temple + Karpacz Górny (14:00–17:00)

After lunch head to Wang Temple — a wooden church from the 12th century, brought from Norway between 1841 and 1844. Admission: 12 PLN adult, 7 PLN child from age 6. The temple lies in Karpacz Górny, so it's also a 30–45-minute walk through the quieter part of town — far from the dug-up centre.

Evening: dinner and rest

Karpacz has several very good restaurants with Karkonosze and Polish cuisine. Game dishes, Silesian dumplings, regional soups — the climate calls for it.

Day 2 — mountains, panorama, return

Morning: chairlift to Kopa (9:00–11:30)

Start the day with the chairlift to Kopa (Karpacz Ski Arena, ul. Olimpijska, 1377 m above sea level). Be there before 10:00 to avoid the queue. The ride above the forest, panorama of the entire Karkonosze and far into the Czech Republic, several easy walking trails at the top.

Parking at the lower station of the Kopa lift: 5 PLN per started hour or 30 PLN for the whole day (as of 2026). Remember a warmer jacket — at the summit it's always a few degrees cooler than in the valley.

Late morning: option A — Kamieńczyk Waterfall in Szklarska Poręba (11:30–14:00)

If time and energy remain, it's worth driving 30 minutes to Szklarska Poręba and seeing Kamieńczyk Waterfall — the highest natural waterfall in the Polish Sudetes (27 m). The trail from the car park takes about 20–30 minutes one way. Kamieńczyk Waterfall is NOT in Karpacz — a common error in travel guides.

Late morning: option B — Karkonoskie Tajemnice (11:30–13:00)

If you'd rather stay in Karpacz, we recommend Karkonoskie Tajemnice (Karkonosze Mysteries) right next to our museum (ul. Mickiewicza 1a) — a multimedia exhibit about the Spirit of the Mountains. Pricing: 36 PLN regular, 29 PLN reduced.

Lunch and return (14:00–15:30)

Last lunch in Karpacz and back home. If you leave after 15:00 on Sunday, you'll avoid the worst traffic on the outbound routes.

Karpacz with a stroller? Take a baby carrier instead

A small thing nobody writes about: Karpacz is hard for a stroller. Steep climbs, kerbs, steps, in 2026 the dug-up promenade on top of that. The hidden solution: a baby carrier, sling, hiking child carrier. Heavier than a stroller on flat ground, but far more efficient in a steep town. A carrier will get you anywhere a stroller would jam — including into our museum (where strollers, unfortunately, can't enter regardless of the weather).

Weekend budget for a family of 2+2 (rough estimate, 2026)

  • Brick Museum + Video Game Museum (combined "Two Museums" ticket, 4 people): 165 PLN
  • Chairlift to Kopa (family): 200–280 PLN (depending on the seasonal pricing)
  • Wang Temple (family): 30–40 PLN
  • 2 nights' accommodation: 400–800 PLN depending on standard
  • Food (2 days, 4 people): 250–400 PLN

Total weekend for a family of 2+2 is roughly 1100–1700 PLN — depending on accommodation standard and choice of attractions.

FAQ — frequently asked questions about a weekend in Karpacz

Are 2 days enough to see Karpacz?

Yes, in 2 days you'll see the most important: our museums, Wang Temple, Kopa with the chairlift and possibly a waterfall or Karkonoskie Tajemnice. For Mount Śnieżka and deeper trails you need a separate day.

Can a weekend in Karpacz be planned without a car?

Yes — and in 2026 it's easier than ever. You can reach Karpacz by train (a rail connection has been launched), and around the town itself you have several options: Bolt, in high season minibuses run efficiently, and a great atmospheric option is our road train with plenty of stops.

What to do on a weekend in Karpacz when it rains?

Plan B consists of our two museums (3–4 hours), Karkonoskie Tajemnice, the pool at Hotel Gołębiewski or Sandra Spa. The whole weekend can be spent under cover.

Is the Brick Museum worth visiting with a very small child?

Yes — the first buttons, movement and colours work even on 18-month-olds. Children from 3–4 years on get the most fun. Average visit time at the Brick Museum is 40–60 minutes, but families often stay longer.
