Karpacz on Sundays and holidays — what's open, what to expect (2026)

Karpacz on Sundays and holidays — Brick Museum open all year round

Karpacz on Sundays and holidays — is it worth coming?

Short answer: yes, definitely. It's a common myth that "on Sundays and holidays everything's closed". Yes — some shops in malls are closed on no-trade Sundays in Poland. But in Karpacz, which is a tourist town, the vast majority of attractions, restaurants and recreational venues are open all week, including Sundays and holidays.

Magda and I have run the Brick Museum in Karpacz since 6 January 2015 — and Sunday for us is just a calm working day. Visitors who're afraid to come miss one of the better days for visiting the Karkonosze (Giant Mountains).

Tourist attractions in Karpacz on Sundays and holidays

Brick Museum + Video Game Museum

Open daily 10:00–18:00, including Sundays and holidays. The only scheduled closed day in the year is 1 November (All Saints' Day in Poland). All other holidays — Easter, Corpus Christi, long weekends, Christmas, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day — we operate normally.

Some holidays have special opening hours. The closest are:

  • Christmas Eve (24 December) — typically reduced opening hours (traditionally until 13:00, but confirm on the home page).
  • Christmas Day (25 December) — typically 11:00–18:00.
  • Boxing Day (26 December) — full hours 10:00–18:00.
  • New Year's Eve (31 December) — typically reduced hours until about 16:00.
  • New Year's Day (1 January) — typically 11:00–18:00.

Exact hours during the holiday season are always updated on the home page muzeumklockow.pl — check before you set off.

Karkonoskie Tajemnice

A multimedia exhibit about the Spirit of the Mountains (ul. Mickiewicza 1a, right next to our museum). Open daily 10:00–18:00. Pricing: 36 PLN regular, 29 PLN reduced. On holidays usually a normal schedule — verify currently.

Wang Temple

A wooden church from the 12th century in Karpacz Górny. On Sundays and holidays, access for visitors may be limited due to services. The temple operates as a Lutheran parish, so masses and rites take priority. It's best to check visiting hours at karkonosze.pl/swiatynia-wang before your visit.

Chairlift to Kopa (Karpacz Ski Arena)

In the winter season (December–March) and summer (June–September) — open daily, including Sundays and holidays. Off-season — usually weekend traffic only. Current hours: karpaczskiarena.pl.

"Kolorowa" Summer and Winter Toboggan Run

Open almost all year. On Sundays and holidays — yes, it operates. Current hours and pricing: kolorowa.pl/cennik.

Łomnica Waterfall and Wild Waterfall

Natural attractions, accessible 24/7, regardless of the day of the week.

Restaurants and cafés in Karpacz on Sundays

Most restaurants in Karpacz are open 7 days a week. On Sundays the kitchen may have a reduced menu, but venues generally don't close.

Exceptions worth noting:

  • No-trade Sundays in Poland — restaurants, cafés, tourist attractions and hotels with food service ALWAYS operate normally. Only grocery stores and larger retail chains are closed.
  • 1 November (All Saints' Day in Poland) — many venues are closed or operate with reduced hours.
  • Christmas Eve, Christmas Day (25 December), Easter Sunday — many places operate with reduced hours. It's good to book a table in advance.

Practical tip about food on Sundays

In peak season (July–August, winter break, long weekends) Sundays are the most crowded days in restaurants. That's because tourists often arrive on Saturday evening, sightsee on Sunday, eat lunch on Sunday "as the trip's finale". If you're planning lunch at a popular restaurant on Sunday between 13:00 and 15:00 — book a table in the morning or the day before.

A better alternative: lunch on Sunday at 11:30 (before the crowd) or at 16:00–17:00 (after the peak). And pick restaurants outside the centre — in 2026 there's an extra reason, because the promenade is dug up.

Shops in Karpacz on Sundays and holidays

No-trade Sundays

Most Sundays in the year are no-trade Sundays, when large grocery stores are closed. Open are:

  • Small shops — where the owners or family members serve themselves.
  • Petrol stations — most have shops with basic items.
  • Tourist and souvenir shops in central Karpacz — generally open on Sundays.
  • Bakeries and pastry shops — most operate on Sundays, though with shorter hours.

The minifigure shop next to the Brick Museum

Open daily 10:00–18:00, including Sundays and holidays (except 1 November). It's a small shop run by our family, so it counts as an exception under the no-trade Sunday law. Entrance from ul. Konstytucji 3 Maja in Karpacz. Online shop: projektklocki.pl.

The best plan for a Sunday in Karpacz

A sample family Sunday plan:

  • 9:00 — breakfast at the hotel or apartment. Calmly, no stress.
  • 10:00 — Brick Museum + Video Game Museum. Arriving as we open, traffic is lighter. A full plan for 1.5 hours.
  • 11:30–12:30 — minifigure shop + a short walk. A souvenir, ice cream.
  • 12:30–14:00 — lunch. A table booked in the morning at a restaurant in Karpacz Górny or on the outskirts.
  • 14:00–16:00 — a short trip. Wang Temple, Wild Waterfall or chairlift to Kopa (if the weather is good).
  • 16:00–17:30 — coffee, ice cream, walk through Karpacz Górny.
  • 17:30 — return to the hotel or home.
